Shady trade agreements

I’ve read two news items whose simple juxtaposition tells more than I could add to.

The first is by Joseph Stiglitz, who points out the negative effects trade agreements have had on developing countries, especially with regard to the limitation of the power of the States to reign in and regulate unwieldy corporations who screw the environment, fool consumers and wreck economies in general: Developing countries are right to resist restrictive trade agreements

And then, news of another of those uber-secret trade agreements that are so "good" no one can know exaclty what goes inside them: NYT endorses brutal, secret, Internet-destroying corporatist TPP trade-deal; write to your lawmaker to fight it

In summary, time to panic.
